A blend of two styles comes with a lot of design freedom. However, to pull off the transitional style correctly there are a few elements that must be included. The following information and data can help you to make the best decisions for your bedroom.

Dark Colors Welcome

The transitional style features a uniquely dark palette compared to other designs. While it does utilize neutrals to help tie things together, it can feature dark browns, grays, and even black tones. The lack of color is used to create a more serene atmosphere.

We analyzed 332,061 bedrooms to find out which colors they used. Black appeared in only 0.67% of the rooms, while gray was featured in 19.45% of them.

Don't Paint the Walls Black

Unlike other styles, the wall color for transitional styles can focus on the dark end of the palette to create a "moody" look. However, using something a darker yet still neutral gray can help to keep things more vibrant. Avoid painting the walls black, unless you have your heart set on it.

A surprising number of bedrooms use gray for their walls. Gray is the third most popular wall color option, used in 19.45%. of 173,576 analyzed bedrooms.

Medium Wood Floors

Transitional rooms often take advantage of medium colored hardwood floors to create a balance between lighter neutrals and darker accents. Most bedrooms feature some form of hardwood flooring. In fact, an analysis of 165,175 bedrooms showed that hues of hardwood were used a combined 50.27%
